A SUDDEN BURST OF LAUGHTER

A SUDDEN BURST OF LAUGHTER

By Franklin Campusano

Randomness can make beautiful things such as laughter look out of place or outright unpleasant, they may even make a completely sane person look completely insane.

Yesterday Sunday was my day off of work. As always, I look forward towards Sundays because those are the days that I can dedicate towards first of all my God Jehovah, and then towards my favorite crafts writing and drawing.

After my meeting (religious meeting) ended, I quickly started preparing myself to go outside. Back in the day, I used to work on Barnes&Nobles and one of the coolest features of that store is its cafe. So now that I’m just a customer there, I usually go on Sundays after the meetings in order to sit down and write my stories.

By this point I already had eaten all my potato chips.

Yesterday Sunday, I did just that, but I quickly had to leave because I started feeling hungry. You may then ask me: “Hansel, why did you leave the cafe because you were hungry when there’s food being sold at the cafe you were seating on?” My answer to you would be: “great question, but you see, I’m not going to spend $9 dollars on a turkey sandwich and a soda.”

Upon leaving Barnes&Noble, I stopped at a convenience store to get some potato chips and a juice for the half an hour journey, and I got on the 1 train towards 96th street. Upon arriving on 96th street I proceeded to wait for the 2 train, but there was a slight problem, the next 2 train to arrive was coming in 20 minutes. A slight inconvenience involving the MTA, one of many slight inconveniences and not so slight inconveniences.

By that point I had already consumed my potato chips and drunk all of my juice, so in order to kill time, I decided to take out my phone, open the notes app and continue working on a “secret” story that I’m currently working on in the shadows.

This however turned out to be quite the task. You see as I was seating in the steps of the 96th street stop typing my thoughts away I was constantly being interrupted. This dude wearing sunglasses for example didn’t make himself be felt, he was going down the steps so quietly and suddenly he lets the loudest sneeze ever scaring my guts away. I turned towards him and gave him a look, but the dude was a hipster, he didn’t care and just continued coming down the stairs.

Because of that and the fact that the 96th train stop is so hot as in, a lot of hot air, a lot of trash and accompanied by the point that the place is not so well lit, I opted to take the 3 train that just happened to arrive at that time towards 110th street, which is way better to wait on than 96th street.

Upon arriving in 110th street I was able to find a proper seat, the wait wasn't too long either since the 2 train arrived a couple of minutes later.

The train was fairly packed, I had to remain standing inside the train cart for the first part of the ride. Later, a seat opened up and I was able to sit down.

Alongside me there were a couple of interesting characters. We had an old guy that seemed to be coming from work. Another old guy with a mustache a nice watch and a nice suit and sunglasses. There was a woman seating besides of me alongside others, none were excited to be there.

As I remember, I was seating there alongside my co passengers thinking about life, and work, and my hobbies. Everybody was minding their own business as well. Suddenly the old guy with the nice watch and suit and sunglasses started laughing manically, he burst out laughing for literally no apparent reason.

The old guy that was seating besides of him gave him a bad look and the people in the train cart were looking at him as well, probably thinking that he was crazy. My attention diverted towards him as well, but I well understood him. I'm no one to judge since I'm also used to bursting out laughing by myself as well.

He was probably thinking about something that ultimately made him laugh. The old man continued laughing for a while without a care in the world of what others thought about him. He was laughing in such a manner that I wanted to laugh as well but I held my laughter in.

Laughing is a beautiful thing, it can strengthen bonds and make for a good time. But in occasions such as this this old man laughing made him look like he was totally insane. When someone laughs and the other doesn't know why they are laughing, the person that doesn't know may look at them weird. But to the person laughing, they simply having the time of their lives.

The lesson of this story is that, when someone is laughing randomly, don't judge them. They are probably laughing of something that is on their mind. I believe making yourself laugh is as important as making others laugh which is why I appreciate what this old guy did. He totally made my day despite never knowing he did.

He came out of the train on the same train stop as I, but I never seen him since. But that's fine, he's memory will be store right here in this blog.
